Charlie Bryan

Charlie provides support for a broad range of community health planning activities, including assessing community health status, developing and implementing community health improvement strategies and mobilizing community partnerships to implement evidence-based public health interventions. Charlie strives to enhance community understanding of effective, achievable means to advance public health and promotes systems, environment and policy changes that promote health for all. Charlie also supports planning and response operations related to public health emergencies.

Prior to joining the Health Department, Charlie was an Emergency Services volunteer coordinator at Mid-America Regional Council in Kansas City, Missouri.

Charlie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Studies and Planning at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., and a Master of Public Administration at the University of Kansas. Before attending college, Charlie left his home in Flathead County, Mont., to complete a 3-year enlistment in the U.S. Army. Charlie served on active duty as a basic medical laboratory specialist and was stationed at Kenner Army Community Hospital in Fort Lee, Virginia.

Charlie met his wife while attending graduate school in Lawrence and they have 2 daughters, both under age 5.

In his free time, Charlie helps facilitate a dads group and serves on the Dads of Douglas County board of directors.
